8 skincare mistakes to be avoided

We all wish to have a flawless, glowing and glass like skin but at the same time we're all guilty of that one night we slept with our makeup on or skipped moisturizing out of sheer laziness. You don't need to spend a bomb on beauty products and parlor treatments to achieve the kind of skin you've dreamt of, you can make your skin look healthier & younger just by avoiding these upcoming skincare blunders that we are all found guilty of at some point. Listed below are the most common skincare mistakes and tips on how you can avoid making these mistakes. So let's drive in.

Over washing your face: Do you wash your face more than twice a day thinking it will keep your skin clean and dirt-free? If so, you're doing more harm to your skin than good. Washing your face too much strips away all the protective natural oils from your skin making it dry and dull-looking. So make it a habit to only wash your face twice a day, in the morning and at night and not over do it.

Using a bar soap on your face: If you're someone who uses soap on face here's why you need to stop doing that immediately.

  • Soap contains harsh chemicals like sulphate, caustic soda, fragrance, parabens & sodium lauryl to name a few, which does not only make your skin look dry and dull but can also cause further damage and pre-mature ageing.
  • Soaps also disturbs the pH balance of the skin and makes it more alkaline.
  • Soaps contain fatty acids which can also clog the pores of the skin.
Now that you know the ill effects of using soaps, just switch your soap bar with a good quality soap-free facewash, and your skin will thank you for that.

Over exfoliating: I know it's tempting to exfoliate because it makes your skin feel like a baby butt as it buffs away all the dead-skin from your face but the friction involved in the process may irritate your skin leading to redness, tenderness & breakouts. So it's only recommended to exfoliate your skin twice a week and not more than that.

Sleeping with makeup on: For the love of God, please don't forget to wash your face before you hit the bed no matter how tired or sleepy you are, It clogs your pores, causes pre-mature ageing & irritates the skin which leads to acne and milia. So make sure to cleanse and moisturize your face before sleeping.

Touching your face unnecessarily: Throughout the day we touch numbers of objects like doorknobs, handles, phones, keys etc, these objects contain millions of germs and bacteria which when comes in contact with your skin causes blisters, cysts, acne, milia and other skin problems. Now in order to avoid contaminating your face, try not to touch your face unnecessarily and built the habit of washing your hands regularly. Not just your hands, be mindful about all the things that comes in contact with your face like your phone screen, your pillowcase, your makeup brushes or your face towel, try to keep these things clean in order to avoid contaminating your face and enjoy your pimple free glowing skin.

Not drinking enough water: Water keeps the skin hydrated and helps in maintaining skin elasticity. Studies show that people who drink a lot of water are less likely to suffer from wrinkles and pre-mature ageing. So get into the habit of drinking at least 2 ltrs of water to make your skin healthy, plump and younger-looking.

Not wearing a sunscreen: I can't exaggerate how important it is to wear a good quality sunscreen everyday, the UV radiation can cause multiple damage to the skin and this product alone prevents sunburn, hyperpigmentation, age spot, wrinkles, freckles and even skin cancer. So make it a habit to always apply your sunscreen in the morning after cleansing and moisturizing your face and to keep re-applying it every 2-3 hours.

Popping your pimples and zits: I know it's tempting, but by popping your pimples you're doing more harm to your skin than good. Popping a pimple can spread the pus and bacteria to the nearby areas of your skin causing irritation, redness and swelling, it also delays it's natural healing process, so it's usually best to just leave the pimple alone.

Sometimes we make these skincare mistakes even without realizing it, but you need to be mindful about certain things, and it can be game changer for your skin and skin health. Thank you for reading, I hope it helps. See you in the next one.
